RUF Unveils Updated CTR3 with 750-Horses

Four years after the presentation of the CTR3, and it's time for Porsche tuning specialist RUF to tweak its mid-engine supercar.

The newest CTR3 continues to use the Porsche 911-derived 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged six-cylinder boxer engine, but thanks to a series of modifications, output has been boosted from 691bhp and 890Nm (657 lb-ft) to 750bhp and 960 Nm (708 lb-ft) of peak torque.

The more powerful CTR3 accelerates from standstill to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 3.2 seconds and to 125 mph (200 km) in 9.6 seconds, and can reach a top speed of 236 mph (380 km/h).

Geneva 2011: RUF Presents 730HP and 370+km/h Rt 12 R based on the Porsche 911 Turbo [with Video]

The 2011 Geneva International Motorshow plays host to the world premiere of the RUF Rt 12 R. The latest supercar from the Porsche tuning specialist is based on the 911 Turbo having received a bevy of modifications including a engine kit that pushes the output of the 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged flat six from 500HP and 650Nm (700Nm with the overboost function) to 730HP and 940Nm (693.3 lb-ft) of peak torque for a top speed in excess of 370km/h (230+ mph). A six-speed manual gearbox transfers power to the all-wheel drive system

Other upgrades include ceramic brakes, 19-inch forged alloy wheels wrapped in 245/35 tires at the front and 325/30 at the back, an aero kit and an adjustable suspension. RUF also reduced the weight of the 911 Turbo through the use of exotic materials such as the carbon fiber wings, front luggage cover and bucker seats. The price of the Rt 12 R is set at €279,000 or about US$386,400 at today's exchange rates.

RUF Developing Electric Test Vehicles Based on the Porsche 911 Carrera

Porsche tuner RUF Automobile is developing ten electric vehicles with three different powertrains based on the 911 Carrera (997), which will be put to the test in “real life situations”. The prototypes are being manufactured in cooperation with German electronics giant Siemens AG and are going to be presented in the first half of 2011. RUF's Porsche 911 Roadster is Less 'Ruf' and More 'Tuf'

In 1967, Porsche launched its first Targa variant of the 911. This incredible and oh-so-stylish vehicle had a removable fabric roof panel above the front seats and a convertible-like folding rear window. In a matter of seconds it could be transformed from a pseudo-hardtop into a convertible with built-in rollbar. In the 1980s, customers could option a non-collapsible glass rear window for that extra piece of mind.

Nowadays, the Targa is simply a Porsche 911 with some chrome trim and a sliding glass roof. Bo-ring. Clearly someone at Ruf agrees with me, as they have launched a new model that emulates the 911 Targas of the late 1960s.

Video: RUF's Porsche CTR-3 and all-electric Porsche 911 Greenster

During their press conference at the Geneva Motor Show, RUF presented their latest Cayman-based CTR-3 model which comes with a twin turbo charged 3.8-liter flat six cylinder engine producing 691bhp and 890Nm of torque as well as the RUF Greenster, an all-electric car based on the Porsche 911 Targa that is equipped with a 270 kW Siemens electric motor with 695 lb-ft of torque. Here’s a video of Ruf’s all-new supercar, the CTR3 that’s features a twin-turbo 3.8-litre flat six-cylinder engine delivering 691bhp @ 7.000rpm and a maximum torque figure of 890Nm.
